Livingston Manor, NY Before his unexpected death in November 2004, world recognized fly tyer Poul Jorgensen was working on a new award for innovations in fly tying. The Golden Hook Award. It was his wishes to annually recognize a fly tyer who has made a major contribution to fly tying through innovation and/or technique that will benefit others.

Working with noted sculpture, Bud Wertheim, the two artists worked close on developing a bronze medallion to be awarded to each year's recipient. As with many artists, there were difficulties on reaching an agreement on design and interpretation. Wertheim felt that the award should bear Foul's likeness, completely opposite of Foul's feelings. Considering it was not completed before his death, Mr. Wertheim completed the project as he liked

The Golden Hook Award will be presented annually at The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum on October 14, 2006 to coincide with annual Fly Fishing Hall of Fame induction ceremony. In addition to awarding the medal, a plaque in recognition will hang in the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum gallery.

To be considered for this award, nominations should be submitted from fly tyers who feel a candidate has clearly made a major contribution to the art of fly tying through: tying innovation, a new technique that will continue to aid future fly tyers, new materials, publication, instruction, or a tool. Considerations are for those of the present, not historically. A panel is currently being assembled by Wertheim and will include five noted fly tyers and a representative from the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum.

Nominations should be sent in a brief letter form including the name and address of the tyer and their significant documented contribution addressed to: CFFCM, Golden Hook Award, PO Box 1295, Livingston Manor, NY 12758. All nominations are to be received by August 15, 2006.
As per Poul's wishes, this will not be a fly tying competition, but a recognition.
