First Cast at Junction Pool – Annual NYS Trout Season Opener
April 1, 2006 will be an extra special day for trout fishermen on the famed Beaverkill River. As luck would have it, this year's Opening Day will fall on a Saturday, offering no die hard fisherman an excuse to miss it. It is a perfect time to celebrate another new fishing season ahead. It is an even greater celebration this year as the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum recognizes their 25th Anniversary. It was in 1981, when Catskill fly tyer Elsie Darbee incorporated the CFFCM as a non- profit organization, dedicated to preserve, protect, and promote fly fishing. Since then, it has grown to become the hub of the world fly fishing community. Thousands of fly fishermen visit the CFFCM each year to immerse themselves in the rich history and tradition of the gentle art and sport of fly fishing.
As in the past, the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in association with The Roscoe/Rockland NY (aka Trout Town, USA) Chamber of Commerce, will host The Official Fist Cast at Junction Pool, where the Willowemoc Creek and Beaverkill River meet. In recognition of t New York's Opening Day of trout season, at 7AM fishing's most recognized and respected woman, Joan Wulff, will cast the first fly. Throughout the day, there will be activities at the CFFCM including the unveiling of the new Ray Bergman Exhibit. Guest fly tyers, Ted Patlen and Don Bastian will be tying traditional Catskill flies using Bergman materials and tools. Another new exhibit The first 25 years, the CFFCM in the Making will be on display, and Agnes Van Put's traditional and equally famous hot soups will be served. No matter what is landed, everyone gets caught up on Opening Day.
