On Saturday, October 20, enroute to The Distinguished Jurist Program at Cornell University, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor took time to make a special stop and visit the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum and wet a line in the Willowemoc.
Accompanied by Cornell Law School, Alan R. Tessler Dean, Stewart Schwab, his wife Norma and son Whitney, Professor of Law Mitchel Lasser and his wife Jessica Woodhouse, Seline Skoug, CFR Executive Director, and pat Watson, Director of Cornell College and Unit Alumni Affairs & Development met with CFFCM President Miriam Stone and husband Sandy, Jim and Ginny Krul, and Ed and Judy Van Put for dinner the night before. In a planned itinerary from Cornell Law School meeting Justice O'Connor's request, the CFFCM and fishing the historical Catskill waters was on her 'must do' list when in the area. Although, confronted by high and chocolate water on Saturday morning, Justice O'Connor did indeed fish the Willowemoc, unfortunately did not hook a fish. Justice O'Connor is a long time fly fisher and frequently fishes with President Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalyn.
It was an honor having Justice O'Connor take the time to visit our area and experience our Catskill traditions.
